GREY CUBE PROJECTS

Art Residency Programme in Bogota

Bogotá is Colombia’s largest city and a major cultural, academic, and commercial centre. As a metropolitan hub shaped by longstanding cultural diversity, it has consistently attracted artists, thinkers, and creative practitioners. The city’s first major art fair, ARTBO, was inaugurated at Corferias in 2004 and continues to play a central role in the national and regional art ecosystem. Bogotá also hosts some of the country’s most significant cultural events, including the Bogotá Biennales 2025, and is home to a wide range of galleries and independent art spaces that contribute to the growing visibility of contemporary art and creative industries within Colombian society.

The residency’s studio and accommodation facilities are located a short walk from the city’s principal art district in the northern part of Bogotá. The area is vibrant and culturally active, with streets lined with cafés, restaurants, and bookshops. Bogotá’s climate is notably variable: mornings are often bright and sunny, while afternoons tend to be cooler, creating a dynamic environment conducive to both work and reflection.

ABOUT RESIDENCY PROGRAM

The Grey Cube Projects Studios Residency Program offers a combined experience of curated and self-directed, self-funded experience designed to honour creative integrity. We recognise that each resident understands their own artistic needs—whether to produce new work, experiment with unfamiliar processes, or simply rejuvenate. To enrich the residency experience, we organise weekly visits to museums, galleries, artists’ studios, and historical sites. Additional programming includes workshops with local artists, critical discussions, and other structured activities. Each resident also receives individual coaching sessions tailored to their specific goals.

Grey Cube Projects offers comprehensive curatorial support throughout the residency. The programme includes curated guided visits to art galleries, cultural institutions, and artists’ studios, ensuring that residents engage meaningfully and organically with Bogotá’s vibrant art scene. As a complement to the academic programme, we also host informal lunch gatherings and evening dinners designed to facilitate networking in a more fluid and conversational environment.

During these events, we invite key figures from the local and international art sectors—curators, lecturers, academics, and established artists—providing residents with opportunities to exchange ideas, discuss their practice, and receive constructive feedback. The academic component of the residency is delivered twice a week through group seminars, followed by personalised coaching sessions with the Grey Cube Projects curator.

We actively encourage collaboration, dialogue, and engagement within the broader artistic community. As a culminating element of the residency, each cohort will participate in either an open studio or a group exhibition, depending on the nature and development of the work produced during their stay.

Orientation and Introduction

Grey Cube Projects begins each residency with a comprehensive introductory session designed to welcome new participants and establish a shared foundation for the programme. During this session, residents are introduced to the current thematic frameworks and curated topics that will guide the academic and discursive components of their stay. This orientation also provides an opportunity to outline expectations, discuss individual goals, and familiarise participants with the resources, facilities, and cultural context of Bogotá.

The introduction serves as an essential starting point for building a sense of community within the cohort. It encourages early dialogue, exchange, and reflection, setting the tone for a collaborative and intellectually engaged residency experience. Through this initial gathering, participants gain insight into the conceptual direction of the programme and begin to situate their own practice within the broader conversations that will unfold during their time at Grey Cube Projects.

Programme Focus

This residency programme positions artistic practice as a form of research that actively engages with materialities, technologies, and more‑than‑human agencies. Drawing on the theoretical frameworks of new materialism, posthumanism, and agentic realism, the programme invites participants to explore how these perspectives can reshape their understanding of artistic production, curatorial methodologies, and the relationships between humans, environments, and technological systems.

Throughout the residency, participants are encouraged to critically examine their own practice through these conceptual lenses, experimenting with new modes of making, thinking, and relating. The programme supports both artistic and curatorial projects, offering a space where research and practice intersect in rigorous, imaginative, and materially grounded ways.

Artists and practitioners interested in contemporary research‑based approaches are particularly well suited to this residency. If you wish to apply these frameworks to your work and develop a project within this intellectually rich environment, we encourage you to secure your place as soon as possible. Spaces are limited.

ART STUDIOS

Residents are provided with their own designated area within a shared studio space. To maintain an intimate and focused working environment, the residency hosts a small cohort of participants at a time.

Accommodation

Accommodation consists of private, self-contained studio apartments in one iconic Art District, known for its contemporary art spaces, coworking venues, boutique hotels, and lively nightlife. This setting offers residents both comfort and immediate access to Bogotá’s dynamic cultural landscape.

We partner with professional accommodation providers to ensure a comfortable and secure living environment for all residents. Each participant is offered a private studio flat equipped with a double bed, a private bathroom, a toilet, and a fully fitted kitchen. High‑speed Wi‑Fi and all utilities are included.

The apartments feature secure entrances and contemporary interior design, providing a calm and functional space ideal for rest, research, and creative development throughout the residency.
